The silver Britannia coin was the first European investment coin and a flagship of the Royal Mint. The 2018 version features the classic design by Philip Nathan – Britannia, one of the most enduring and recognized symbols of Great Britain, dating back to 119 AD, during the reign of the Roman Emperor Hadrian, who claimed the British Isles as the Roman province of Britannia.
Her Majesty The Queen Elizabeth II, the definitive fifth coinage portrait of Her Majesty The Queen, designed by Jody Clark. The obverse also features the coin denomination, which is 2 British pounds, and a new guilloche background design.
The reverse of the coin features the allegoric image of Britannia, in a billowing robe and a Corinthian helmet. She is armed with a trident and is supporting a shield and an olive branch, waves at her feet, a symbol of strength, tradition and freedom. The obverse also features the coin weight, the name of the coin “Britannia”, the year of mintage, the fineness and the words “Fine Silver”.
Britannia coins are renowned for their beauty and reliability. The coin is struck from 99.99% pure silver and is UK legal tender.
