The initial introduction of this coin was in 1999 as a Zambian Silver Elephant. The Bavarian State Mint later changed the nation of issue for the coins to Somalia in 2004, and the coin has been steadily gaining popularity since then. Each year features a new design, depicting a majestic elephant. So far the Somali Silver Elephant is the only coin in the African Wildlife series.
The obverse of the coin features the Somali Coat of Arms, the year 2018 and the words ‘Somali Republic’. The coin denomination is 100 shillings.
The reverse of the coin depicts the image of a bull elephant, with its tusks facing forward. The trunk of the elephant is raised, as it is trumpeting to the herd, the trunk curling toward the edge of the coin. The background features native vegetation and birds in flight.
This is perhaps the best and most beloved of all the designs in the series, and this coin is projected to be in very high demand.
