The first release of the coin Wiener Philharmoniker is in 1989. It has been released by the Austrian mint and is struck in two different currencies – from 1989 to 2001 it is released as Austrian shilling, and after 2001 – in Euro. For the years 1992, 1995, 1996 and 2000, the coin Wiener Philharmoniker is the best-selling gold coin in the world. The coin is released in the following sizes – 1 troy ounce, 1/2 troy ounces, 1/4 troy ounces and 1/10 troy ounces, and its design is dedicated to the Wiener Philharmoniker.
The obverse represents a pipe organ, situated in the Golden Concert Hall of The Wiener Philharmoniker. Above it, there is an inscription “Republik Österreich”, and below it, there is an inscription “1/2 Unze Gold 999.9”, year of release 2014 and face value 50 Euro.
The reverse side depicts musical instruments, used in the orchestra – violoncello, violins, clarion, bassoon and harp. Above them, there is an inscription “Wiener Philharmoniker”.
